Talk:Gwynn Oak Park
From BaltoCo
I grew up in the area and passed the park frequenty .Although I have no recall of my parents taking me to the amusement park, I retain strong memories of being mezmorized by the gigantic (to a small child) wooden roller coaster and seeing the large swan paddleboats gliding across the water which bordered its north side recall the lights from the carny boothes and Famous Ballroom. The park was bordered upstream by the Woodlawn Cemetary where I have fond memories of a idillic tree canopied river which swans and duck populated. In winter the frozen river was alway a rich visual tapestry of ice skaters, barren trees and tombstone dotted the hilly backdrop. I remember being there the day after Hurricane Agnes had hit. The park had been in decline for some years but the flood nailed the coffin shut. I recall the water pouring through the park. It went through a few houses at the east side on the park where the Gwynn Falls River flowed out. I remember seeing small soaked carny prizes, plastic streamers and assorted park debris strown through bushes and tree branches for great distances down stream from the park. It was a very piculiar and surreal visual that I always equated as the park's ghosts.
