- Using headings is useful for article clarity. By default, once there are more than four headings in an article, then a Table of Contents will appear at the top of the page--so headings are extremely useful in long articles that contain a lot of information.
- Headings are created by surrounding the section's title text with equal (=) signs.
- There are six levels of headings:
- = Heading 1 =
- == Heading 2 ==
- === Heading 3 ===
- ==== Heading 4 ====
- ===== Heading 5 =====
- ====== Heading 6 ======
- Please note that use of single equals signs for = Heading 1 = is discouraged, as it will create heading that appears too identical in weight and size to the main article heading.
- This is the table of contents that will be created. Clicking on the links in the table of contents will scroll the page down to the relevant section:
Contents |
[edit] Heading 1
[edit] Heading 2
[edit] Heading 3
[edit] Heading 4
[edit] Heading 5
[edit] Heading 6
- Note: Adding __NOTOC__ to an article will disable the table of contents from showing.
